Minutes of the September 11th, 2024 Board Meeting

 

The meeting was called to order at 1:08 pm. The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm. Gary Goldberg, Mike Tizzani, Carl Pallas, George Wacaser, Frank Lyons, Mark McCool via phone, Marc Galloway and Mike Mahan were present. Mike Cox was not present.

 

The minutes for the July 24th meeting were approved. 

 

Casey Doyle from the county opened the meeting. He will overlook the 17th Street Park and Fruitville Park fields. Some concerns were expressed regarding the reservation process. We learned that the phase 2 improvements are years away.

 

Financial Report

A report on current sponsor payments and registrations was issued. The association is no longer using PayPal, it was replaced by Stripe. Summer championship shirts and part of the summer field rentals are not yet paid. The association has an adequate supply of balls for the upcoming season. The financial report was approved.

 

Old Business

A new logo was picked for the hats and championship shirts. A hat color was picked and around 325 hats will be purchased for a one time distribution to paid players. Red envelopes for the medical history/contact forms were distributed. 

 

New Business

We had an update on the filling of the manager slots. A discussion occurred regarding the matching of player/sponsors and their companies.

 

New Rules: 

1. A manager has the right to request the removal of an umpire in-between innings if the managers agree. The removal is also carried over to the second game of the doubleheader if the removal occurred in the first game. If the managers disagree a Board Member will make the decision on the field regarding whether the umpire will be removed.

 

2. There will be no more time clock for the second game. We will no longer need to end by a certain time. Both games will be played to completion unless both managers agree to shorten the game.

 

3. A player who is removed from a game for a conduct violation in the first game will also be removed for the second game of the doubleheader as well as the team’s next scheduled doubleheader. In addition, the team will be penalized by having to replace the player with a player of lesser value. For example, a #5 player will be replaced by a #6 player. Also players must be at least 55 years old by Dec 31st of the year that the season ends. "B" League players must be rated a #2 or higher and "C" League players must be rated a #5 or higher. 

 

There was a discussion regarding making a full squad mandatory for all games. 

 

The next SSSA board meeting will occur on October 9th, 2024.
