Sarasota Senior Softball Association 

   BOD Meeting Minutes – October 12, 2022     

Call to order: President Ken Shepard called the meeting to order at 1pm. Attending Members: Frank Lyons, Mike Mahan, Ron Giovannucci (via phone), George Wacaser, Chuck Cason, Luis Negrete, and Gary Goldberg. Absent: Bob D’Angelo.  

The Board approved the September 14 meeting minutes. Mike presented the Treasurer’s report and it was approved. There is a positive balance.   

Old Business 

Ken ordered the Summer League championship shirts. Registration is ongoing and the Combine went well. The Draft is scheduled for Monday (A & B leagues) and Tuesday (C leagues). There are a few openings for Winter League Managers. Winter League Coordinator positions are filled.  There were no Suggestion(s) and no shirts were sold.  

New Business  

There are 27 current Sponsors with 6 pending and 3 that need follow-up. The Fields were closed for a short period but are now open. Player Ratings are completed. Ken ordered hats and shirts for the Winter Leagues. There was a lengthy discussion on the number of players and teams in each league. It was recommended that Winter League Coordinators not manage a team in their league.

Around the room, comments and questions 

Ken will contact Summer League Manager Jay Wolfinger about discussing one of his player’s rating. Ken will follow-up with an email to Jay. Managers are reminded to not discuss player ratings. As required, Ken will send proof of insurance to Sarasota County. Ken will send another email in regards to a storage box at Fruitville Park to Steve Rauh Sports Development & Athletics Division Manager Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources. 

Unfinished Business 

The rule on certain “C” League players “not counting as an out” has been tabled and will be discussed at a later date. 

The meeting adjourned at 2:50pm.

 The next meeting will be on Wednesday, 12:45-2:45pm, November 9, 2022 at the Fruitville Library Conference Room.
