Jack Zimmerman, Ron Grande. Absent: Bob D'Angelo.
A. Ken called the meeting to order at 12:05pm.
B. After a slight change to the June minutes, a motion was made, seconded and the minutes were
unanimously approved.
C. Dan gave the financial report, which was approved unanimously. About 10 summer players have
not paid the $35 fee. A handful of folks who bought banquet tickets still have not requested a refund.
D. OLD BUSINESS
1. Ken presented the proposed budget for the period of July 1, 2020 thru June 30, 2021. A change to
some categories concerning special events was suggested and accepted. After further discussion on
other line items, the budget was unanimously approved.
2. The winter league player fee will remain at $85, as approved at the February, 2020 board meeting.
3. Chuck gave a report in behalf of the bylaws committee. A few changes were agreed upon and
accepted. Chuck will fine tune the changes. For uniforms there was nothing for Dave to report, as we
won't start ordering uniforms until next month.
4. Frank said the initial sponsor letter was mailed on July 6.
E. NEW BUSINESS
1. Some players asked about shortened games during the summer because of the heat which our
rules already address. By email Ken has sent the rule to both Gold and Silver league managers.
2. Some players asked if the league intends on "pausing" play until the virus situation improves. No,
because if the county feels it's not safe to play, they will cancel recreational league play.
3. President's report. Ken received an email from a Thursday manager about insect issues at Fruitville
Park. Ken notified Jon Loschin at the county parks department. Jon is the county employee who twice
has been at the 17th St fields to inspect league play. Ken said the 2 individuals who agreed to host
Friday BP backed out. So notice of Friday BP was removed from our website. In the June 28 Sarasota
Herald Tribune newspaper there was a short piece in the Community Best Bets section about SSSA.
Ken passed the item around so all board members could read the piece.
4. Next month's meeting is scheduled for 1pm, Wednesday August 12 at the Fruitville Library, but the
location will likely change. Today's meeting was adjourned at 1:05pm.
Respectfully,
Ken Shepard (in behalf of the lovely and talented Bob D'Angelo)
