ABOUT US

 

Established in 1997 with a humble roster of 77 players, the Sarasota Senior Softball Association has since blossomed into a vibrant community of over 350 players. From modest beginnings, we've flourished into a league that thrives on camaraderie and competition, offering opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels to enjoy the game they love.

 

LEAGUE STRUCTURE

 

Our league is structured to accommodate players of varying expertise and experience. We offer Gold Level (A) Leagues for seasoned players, Silver (B) Leagues for those at an intermediate level, and Bronze (C) Leagues for beginners and those looking to hone their skills. With dues set at $60 per season, we aim to keep participation accessible to all.

 

Games are scheduled four days a week during the winter months and three days a week throughout the summer. Weekday games typically run from 8:30 am to 11:30 am in the summer and 9 am to 12 pm in the winter, providing ample opportunities for friendly competition and enjoyment.

 

A WARM WELCOME

 

To newcomers and returning players alike, our Board of Directors extends a warm welcome. Whether you're joining us from another league or picking up the bat after a hiatus, you'll find a supportive community ready to embrace you. Batting practice sessions, held Fridays at 8:30 am, offer a chance for players of all levels to sharpen their skills and connect with fellow teammates.

 

WINTER & SUMMER LEAGUES

 

A hallmark of our league is its inclusivity, catering to both full-time residents and "Snowbirds" who flock to Florida during the winter months. Winter leagues convene Mondays through Fridays from early November to late March, with breaks for the holidays. In the summer, games take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with a midsummer hiatus in August to recharge and regroup.

 

TEAM SPIRIT AND RECOGNITION

 

Team managers, all volunteers, play a pivotal role in shaping the league's dynamics and fostering a sense of teamwork. Before each season, managers convene with Board Members to draft their teams, ensuring a fair and balanced playing field for all participants. At the conclusion of the winter season, we gather for an Awards Banquet to celebrate the achievements of winning teams and recognize individuals who have contributed to the league's success. Guest speakers, including retired professional baseball players and esteemed members of the Sarasota community, often grace us with their presence, adding a special touch to our festivities.

 

HAVE FUN & PLAY SAFE

 

Above all, we prioritize fun and safety on the field. Whether you're swinging for the fences or cheering from the sidelines, we encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of the game and cherish the bonds forged through softball.
