Present: Jack Zimmerman, Dan Martin, Frank Lyons, Dave Wulfsohn, Chuck Cason, Joe Warren, George Wacaser, Ken Shepard. Absent: Ron Grande. Guest: Pete Miller.
President Jack Zimmerman called the meeting to order at 1pm. Minutes of the April 10, 2019 board meeting + the financial report were unanimously approved. Dan mentioned this past winter season 285 players paid the $75 league fee. Most summer league players have paid.
OLD BUSINESS
This past winter season we had 39 paid sponsors but only 34 teams, so 5 sponsorships were held in abeyance. Jack and Frank will handle sending out renewal letters to sponsors.
We discussed possible marketing strategies. We all agreed our website needs an overhaul. Frank and Pete will look at possibilities. Our Facebook page continues to grow and Joe Mastrocinque is that moderator. The “baseball cards” met with limited success.
For now the Thursday Silver League summer games will continue to be played at Fruitville Park on Richardson Road.
NEW BUSINESS
1. This summer Frank Lyons is the “rainman” for the 17th Street games and Sands Robnick is the rainman for Richardson. Bob Hennings has apparently quit his Thursday team and is not responding to messages. Next month the board will decide his fate.
2. We have enough new balls to get us thru the summer break. Unused shirts/hats are in the old shed at 17th St.
3. We again discussed trying a playoff system after the regular season is over. It would take place after the 2019-2020 winter season is finished.
4. We discussed possible ways SSSA could participate in community events. Not much enthusiasm.
5. Joe said next year’s annual luncheon is set for March 18, 2020.
6. Tentative dates for this year’s combine is October 8 with the drafts set for October 15 and 17.
Next month’s meeting is 1pm, Wednesday, June 12 at the Fruitville Library. Today’s meeting adjourned at 3:15pm.
Respectfully,
Ken Shepard, Secretary
